Identify the exact cartridge and its claims before ordering a replacement.

Start with the appliance model

Find the refrigerator model and the specified replacement part. Similar-looking cartridges may differ, and an old online listing may not describe the current approved part. Use the manufacturer’s current documentation rather than guessing from a photograph.

Check the exact filter’s listed claims. A refrigerator dispenser does not automatically provide the same treatment as a separately specified drinking-water system.

Maintain the actual unit

Follow the installation, flushing and replacement instructions for the appliance and cartridge. Keep the date and part number in the household record. If there is a leak, damaged housing or unusual operation, obtain appropriate service rather than forcing an incompatible part.

A replacement interval may be affected by use and conditions; read the actual instructions rather than borrowing a universal schedule.

During an advisory

Do not assume filtered refrigerator water or ice is safe under a supply advisory. Follow the utility’s instructions for connected equipment and the manufacturer’s return-to-use guidance. Read storm and water-system readiness for the distinction between routine maintenance and a supply incident.
