Hi, my name is Sam and you’ve probably found my website because you’re looking for a product that will help sort out the quality of water that comes out of your tap. It could also be that you’re looking for some information that will help you understand all that industry jargon that goes along with water softeners and filters.
In both cases, welcome! You’re in the right place.
I am not a professional within this industry. In fact, I could be termed as an average member of the public just like you. However, during my quest to find the best product that would improve the quality of my water, I came across a number of issues.
- Manufacturers are not very good at telling you what they’re talking about.
- Generally, the issue of water quality is very complicated.
- In order to find out what will suit you best, it means you’ll have to do some additional research other than that of the product itself.
These are some of the reasons I’ve created this website. I wanted to give you the benefit of all my research, which has taken many months and has meant I’ve bent the ears of a good many people who know the technical “ins and outs” when it comes to water quality.
What Filter or Softener to Choose?
Not only will you find some honest and easy to understand reviews on the water filters and softeners I have come across, you will also be able to take advantage of the many informational pages I’ve added.
However, I understand that a lot of you won’t have the time to read through all of the information I’ve added on my website, and I also understand that some of you will already have an idea of what type of product you need. Just for you I’ve added a quick comparison table so you can see at a glance what type of softeners or filters I have for you to choose from.
For those of you that have no idea what you’re looking for (or are completely confused over what works and why) you can take a look at some of the information pages I’ve added in the hope it will give you head start.
- Water Softeners Vs Water Filtration Systems
It may seem obvious to a lot of people, but when I first started my “water quality” journey I was a little confused about whether or not I should just opt for a softener or filter. If you’re in the same place I was, this page will give you some great information. - Salt Based Vs Salt Free Water Softeners
The information here will deal only with water softeners (filtration systems are usually salt free). On this page I deal with the pros and cons of using a salt free system over one that’s salt based. Hopefully once you’ve finished reading it, you will have a better idea of what will work for you. - How and Why Water Filters Differ in Price
At the beginning of my quest for the best water filter I just couldn’t figure out why the prices for water purifiers differ so much. Prices ranged from twenty to over a thousand dollars, yet they would all filter my water? Now I know why this is. - Reverse Osmosis Filtration – How It Works
Boy, this was not an easy one for me to grasp, so I completely understand if you have come across this term and are in a pickle about what it all means. This is why I felt the need to add this informational page for you. By the time you’ve been through it, you’ll be an expert (well, not quite but you will at least understand the concept). - Technicalities and Abbreviations
This was one of the biggest headaches for me. Every-time I started to read about a product that deals with water quality, I was bombarded with various abbreviations and technicalities that meant nothing to me. This took up loads of my time because I had to look them up elsewhere. Not so here! You will find everything you need to know all in one place.
For more information, just take a look at the menu to the right of this page. I’ve added quite a few articles on both water softening and water filtration techniques.
Reviews and Top Picks
Water filters and softeners come in an array of designs. As you will see below, I have done my best to cover all angles so you get a good cross section of the reviews I have to offer.
Best Salt Based Water Softener
This model from Fleck is (in my opinion) one of the best salt based softeners around. Not only will you get lovely soft water that doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry after a shower, you also get (unlike many other models) a 10 year warranty on the tank, and 5 years on the head.
Best Salt-Free Softener and Filtration Combo
This whole house water purification system will not only soften your water, it will also filter undesirable contaminants. If you’re only interested in a water softener, no problem, you can buy it separately. The same goes if you’re only interested in the filtration system.
Best Budget Water Conditioner
For those of you that prefer not to have the hassle of buying salt, this descaler from Eddy is the perfect solution. It’s environmentally friendly, and you can say goodbye to lime-scale build up on your home appliances.
Best Water Filter Pitcher
If you’re looking for a great all round purifier, this is the one for you. It will remove all sorts of toxins as well as leave your water fresh and odorless. The best thing about this one is it’s perfect for camping trips as well as the home.
Best Countertop Water Filter
This little beast of a water filter may not look like much, but it packs a punch! It fits neatly on the side of your sink and has 10 stages of filtration. Not only that, it’s designed so you don’t have to change the cartridge until you’ve passed a whopping 1,500 gallons of water through it.
Best Faucet-Mount Water Filter
Culligan has managed to bring a filter to the market that is so well priced, you can afford to have one attached to just about every faucet in your home. Of course, it will not filter as many contaminants as the more expensive filters, but its capabilities to reduce odors and nasty tastes makes it a great entry into the world of water purification.
Best Under Sink Water Filter
With no less than five stages of filtration, including reverse osmosis, this model treats just about every contaminant you can think of. If you want the water from your faucet to be free of both organic and inorganic compounds, I think this one is definitely worth a look.
Best Budget Water Filter
Although not as comprehensive at removing contaminants as the model above, this one will certainly make sure the water from your faucet tastes better and is free of that nasty chlorine smell. If you’re on a budget and want to do away with bottled water, take a peek at this review.
Other Information and Tips
It doesn’t matter if you have read everything above or you’ve simply decided to jump to this section of my homepage. After all, I’m not here to encourage you in any direction. What I wanted to create (and I hope I have) is a one-stop website that gives you all the information you need about the quality of the water that comes out of your tap.
Even if you’re not on the market for a water purifier, I have still made it possible for you to find out some information on what might be going on when you turn on your faucet. Perhaps you’ve had trouble with lime-scale and don’t quite understand the consequences of this?
If so, take a quick look at my page on the dangers of hard water.
Contamination is also something to think about, and during my quest I have come across a great deal of information I think everyone should be armed with.
If you would like to find out more about water and its contaminants, take a look at my page on the trouble with contaminated water.
For those of you who are avid bottled water drinkers, you should also be aware of how this industry is affecting our planet and if in fact, it’s actually helping your health.
If you would like to see more about this subject, go to my section on bottled water.
A Few Final Words
Believe me when I say I completely understand how frustrating it can be trying to work out if the water out of your faucet is a danger to your health, and if it is what filter will work best for you. I have worked tirelessly over the past few months in order to bring this little creation you see before you to the internet, and I really hope you not only come away more educated on water in general but that you also find the right product for you.
All of the reviews you will find here are honest, straight to the point and not filled with industry jargon you might not understand. In fact, I like to think of my website as a water filter review site “for the people, by the people”.
All that’s left to be said is enjoy browsing and make sure you’re happy with your decision before you hit that all important purchase button.
